Professional Development

When you come to Washington Post Media, every day can bring new learning experiences that continuously lead your career forward. In fact, you’ll start learning new skills and enriching your capabilities at orientation.

We have a wide range of programs available to help you with everything from career development and effective on-the-job performance, to management and leadership training. These opportunities may vary, depending on what part of the company you join, but our aim is to enable you to achieve your goals and ensure you have the most successful and satisfying career possible.

Career development

Whether it’s changing your focus, expanding your contributions and responsibilities, or getting the promotion you seek, we’ll provide you with the career development training you need to advance and increase your talents. We are dedicated to filling new needs from within our organization, so as your goals and needs grow and change, you’ll have the support of leadership and peers that can keep you moving up and around the organization.

Post Performance Management

To help guide your career development, we created Post Performance Management. This process utilizes online tools to help you and your manager gauge your skills progression through four phases: Setting Goals, Reviewing Progress, Appraising Performance and Planning Your Development.

Post Competency Model

At the core of our professional development program is the Post Competency Model, which outlines the knowledge, skills and abilities essential for every position in the organization. Hiring, training, rewards and other Human Resources-related decisions will be based on your achievements along these standardized milestones. So you’ll always know exactly what’s expected of you, and exactly what you need to do to excel.

Post Learning Center

The Post Learning Center is your resource for achieving the competencies necessary for your success. You can attend self-paced online courses or register for classroom-based instructor-led courses to develop your career. Whichever you choose, you can expect the courses to be highly focused and specific to the skills you learn on the job.

Tuition Assistance Program

We believe that the more time you invest in your education, the more skilled and knowledgeable you can be as one of our staff members. So we offer every employee the opportunity to participate in our Tuition Assistance Program. You’ll be supported for academic courses taken toward earning undergraduate and graduate degrees, plus other courses related to any of our careers at The Post.
